Private Water Wells

We issue installation permits and inspect newly constructed and/or renovated private wells in Champaign County on behalf of the Champaign County Public Health Department . Contact us at (217) 363-3269 for more information.

Want to test your well water? Our test kits are $20 each and are available at our office at 201 W. Kenyon Rd., Champaign, IL 61820.

Need a permit to drill, construct or modify a well?

Complete the Champaign County Public Health Department well application (PDF) and submit it with a $100 permit fee and a $100 inspection fee to the Champaign County Public Health Department. You may mail, email or hand deliver the application and fee. Or you may fax the application to us for a preliminary review. Note: final approval will not be given until we receive an original, signed copy of the application and the fee. Environmental Health will process your application within 15 days.

State law requires a minimum 48-hour notice prior to installation.
