All of our Sexually Transmitted Disease (STD) Clinics are walk-in. A $20 donation is suggested, but no one will be turned away for inability to pay. No appointments are necessary, but it is best to arrive early during clinic hours.
Check In
You will check at the adult services desk. You will be given a number so your name will not be used or announced.
Show Your ID
This is not to check your age. Anyone 12 years of age and older can ask for and receive STD and HIV services without parental permission. Your parents/guardian will not be contacted. Showing your ID helps to ensure that we have the most accurate contact information for you. Sometimes people give false names or addresses, which is not necessary. All of your information will be kept confidential. Giving a false name, address or phone number could hamper our efforts to contact you if needed. If we need to contact you, we do so in a very confidential manner. We would never contact your parents, guardian, partner, etc.
Eligibility
Anyone 12 or older can receive our STD services regardless of where they live. No one will be turned away. Citizenship is NOT a requirement for our programs. All of our Sexually Transmitted Disease (STD) Clinics are walk-in. A $20 donation is suggested, but no one will be turned away for inability to pay. No appointments are necessary, but it is best to arrive early during clinic hours.
Permission
You must sign a consent form to allow for tests and any treatment.
Counseling
You will first meet with a nurse who will ask you questions to complete a risk assessment. During this time, it is very important that you answer the questions honestly. Our nurses have heard all types of answers. You will not shock or embarrass them. They are professionals who are here to help. The more you tell them, the more they can help you. The nurse will talk with you about how you can get a STD and ways you can protect yourself in the future. They can also refer you to other services such as substance abuse treatment, syringe exchange, prevention case management, mental health services, domestic violence intervention, and many more.
Blood Test
A small blood sample will be taken from your arm to be tested for syphilis
and HIV. It will NOT be tested for drugs or be used for
any other reason. You will also be encouraged to be vaccinated for Hepatitis
A & B. Hepatitis
B can be transmitted during unprotected sexual contact.
This vaccination will protect your from infection with Hepatitis A & B.
These infections can be life threatening. The vaccination is q part of
the important services offered for persons using our STD Clinic. You can
be tested for Herpes Types 1 and 2 with a blood test. The cost for this
testing is $7. Please talk to your nurse in the clinic about this testing.
Exam
In a private room, a nurse or doctor will ask you about any symptoms you may have plus give you a physical exam to determine if you have an infection. The STD exam involves a urethral swab for men, and a vaginal exam for women. A PAP test is not done and women should follow-up with their primary medical provider, Planned Parenthood, or Frances Nelson Health Center to make sure that they receive one.
HIV Counseling And Testing
You will be offered counseling and a blood test for HIV, the virus that causes AIDS. If you are still in school, we will offer you an anonymous HIV test (your name will not be on the paperwork).
Post-Test Counseling
If you have a STD you will receive medication if appropriate. You will also be asked if you want any help telling your sex partner(s), so that he or she may be tested. The clinic will have staff that can help you with this, if you want. If we help you contact your partners, the partner will not be told who reported them. We will simply notify that person that they have been exposed to a STD and offer them testing and treatment. It is very important that your partner(s) are treated to avoid re-infection. Notifying partners is the responsible thing to do. Many STDs have no symptoms, so your partners may not even know they have one. Some STDs, if left untreated, can become serious, even life-threatening. Some cause infertility and harm unborn babies.
Language
Each clinic will do its best to have a translator for people who do not speak English. You can also bring someone to translate for you. Spanish-speaking staff is available at the initial check-in.
Waiting
Because the clinic doesn't use appointments, we can never be sure how many people will come at any time. Fewer people who come means less waiting time; more people may mean more waiting. It is our goal to keep the waiting time as short as possible. While you wait in the adult waiting room, you will view a variety of videos that explain HIV and STDs and related subjects.
Medical Record
Your medical record is protected by clinic policy and by State law. Another person cannot see your medical record UNLESS YOU sign a release of information form.
It is our promise to you that we will do all we can to make your visit as easy, yet complete as possible, while respecting your comfort and privacy.
If you are 12 years of age or older you may receive STD and HIV services, regardless of where you live. All tests are confidential and parental permission is not needed. Citizenship is NOT required. You must sign a consent form for tests and any treatment. We will ask for your ID to ensure that we have the most accurate contact information for you. We will not share your health information with ANYONE without your written permission.
Cost
We ask for a donation of $20 at the time of services. We accept cash, check or credit cards. This helps us cover the costs associated with operating the STD Clinics and providing exams, testing, lab services, treatments, and partner notification. If a person can not provide $20, we ask that they provide what they can. No one will be refused services because of inability to pay. Additional services such as pharengeal or rectal swab for gonorrhea will be provided at an additional cost. No appointments are necessary, but it is best to arrive early during clinic hours.
How do I get services?
Show up during clinic hours. No appointment is necessary. You will check in under the "Clinic Check-in" sign. You will be given a number so that your name with not be used or announced.
