HIV Counseling and Testing
hiv counseling

Anonymous and confidential HIV testing is available for you. The test is done in a private office. At your testing appointment, we discuss your risks for becoming infected with HIV and we work with you to come up with your own HIV prevention plan. After the test we set up another appointment with you so that you can come in for your results.

h i v testingWe offer an anonymous oral test and a confidential blood test. In the oral test (Orasure), a small cotton pad in placed between your lower teeth and your cheek for a few minutes. The pad picks up some cells from your mouth, a painless process that takes about four minutes. The pad is sent to a state laboratory for testing. Or you can opt to have a blood test, in which blood is taken from your arm for testing at the state laboratory. Both tests are safe and accurate.

Results are usually available two weeks after the test.

NOTICE: Illinois now requires that those conducting confidential HIV tests to report the names of those who test positive to the state health department. This information is CONFIDENTIAL. No one who works for Public Health or for the state may disclose your HIV status without your written permission. Your privacy is protected by law. ANONYMOUS tests results are NOT reported to the state.
