Our Mission

The mission of the Champaign-Urbana Public Health District is to improve the health, safety and well-being of the community through prevention, education, collaboration, and regulation.

Our Goals

  • To Prevent Disease, Injury and Disability
  • To Promote Healthy Lifestyles
  • To Provide Early Diagnosis for Improved Health Outcomes and Reduced Health Care Costs
Our Vision
Champaign-Urbana Public Health District is the progressive and respected advocate for the health, safety, and well-being of our community.

What We Do

The Health District offers an array of services and programs that reach people of all ages and from all walks of life.

Women come here for pregnancy care, nutrition advice, educational support, supplemental food coupons, pregnancy tests, genetics referrals and breastfeeding support.

Parents bring their children to us for immunizations, dental care, school physicals, blood lead tests, baby care and developmental testing. They rely on the Health District for guidance on proper car seat installations. They come to us for help with KidCare and FamilyCare medical insurance applications.

Smokers get assistance kicking the habit.

People with diabetes depend on Health District nurses for help monitoring their health.

People living with HIV and AIDS rely on us for case management. Young and old come to our clinics for health screenings, flu and pneumonia shots and other immunizations.

We inspect food and drink establishments and tattoo and tanning facilities. We conduct lead investigations, license wells and provide food-handling instruction.

We investigate disease outbreaks that could threaten community health. And we are part of a county-wide emergency preparedness team that will work together to respond to any natural or man-made disaster that may occur in Champaign County.

The list of services goes on and on. Each of the Health District divisions - Administration; Community Health Nursing & Clinical Services; Community Health Surveillance, Planning & Education; Dental Health; Environmental Health; Family Health; and HIV/STD/TB Prevention & Management - serves a unique public health function. All programs within these divisions are designed to address health priorities in the Champaign-Urbana community.

Health District offices are located in Champaign, Urbana and Rantoul, but we also bring our services to numerous other sites in Champaign County.

We have a special relationship with the Champaign County Public Health Department (LINK), which provides funding and other support for services to county residents outside Champaign and Urbana. As a result, we are able to offer health screenings, immunizations, Family Health services, sexually transmitted disease and tuberculosis clinics, home-based health promotion services and dozens of other health and prevention services to people throughout the county.

We also partner with dozens of other health and social service providers, sharing resources and expertise to get health services to the people who most need them.

We invite you to take advantage of our many programs and services. There is almost certainly something here that could benefit your health and the health of those you love. Look around!
